CustomizableDropBright® N-FLA starts from crude rice bran oil and is refined through extraction, NaOH hydrolysis, secondary extraction, and crystallization. Ferulic acid is a naturally occurring phenolic acid renowned for its exceptional antioxidant, photoprotective, and anti-inflammatory properties, making it a star ingredient in premium anti-aging, brightening, and sun care formulations.

The phenolic hydroxyl groups in ferulic acid effectively capture and neutralize skin-aging free radicals (such as superoxide and hydroxyl radicals), terminating lipid peroxidation chain reactions. Beyond its own antioxidant capacity, it acts as a classic stabilizer and synergist for Vitamin C and Vitamin E. In the renowned CEF formulation (Vitamin C + E + Ferulic Acid), ferulic acid significantly enhances the photostability and chemical stability of the vitamins, multiplying the overall antioxidant efficacy.
Ferulic acid has absorption capacity in the UV spectrum (particularly UVA and UVB bands), mitigating UV-induced skin erythema and DNA damage. Incorporating ferulic acid into sunscreens or daytime care formulas provides an "endogenous" photoprotective barrier for the skin, reducing the occurrence of photoaging.
Ferulic acid can reduce melanin production by inhibiting tyrosinase activity. It also scavenges inflammatory mediators, reducing skin redness and discomfort caused by UV or external irritants, helping to achieve gentle brightening and an even skin tone.
Ferulic acid is indeed susceptible to oxidation and discoloration when exposed to air and light. For formulation design, the following measures are recommended: ① Oxygen exclusion: Use nitrogen flushing during production and select packaging with excellent airtightness; ② Light protection: Use opaque or dark-colored bottles; ③ pH adjustment: Ferulic acid is more stable in a mildly acidic environment (pH 3.0–4.5); ④ Chelating agents: Add metal ion chelators like Disodium EDTA to prevent metal-catalyzed oxidation. A classic approach is to combine it with antioxidants (such as Vitamin C, E, or sulfites) to extend shelf life.
Ferulic acid has extremely low solubility in water at room temperature, so it cannot be directly added to a purely aqueous phase. The standard solution is using co-solvents. In serum formulas, common systems involve pre-dissolving in glycols (such as propylene glycol, 1,2-hexanediol) combined with an appropriate amount of ethanol; alternatively, adjust the pH to be mildly alkaline (e.g., partially neutralizing with triethanolamine to form water-soluble ferulate), though be aware that alkaline conditions may darken its color. For alcohol-free formulations, solubilization using high-quality nonionic surfactants (like Polysorbate-20) is recommended.
The greatest advantage lies in the endorsement of "natural origin" and "clean beauty." DropBright® N-FLA is a natural product extracted from Rice Bran, aligning perfectly with current consumer demand for natural, safe, and sustainable ingredients. Furthermore, ferulic acid extracted from rice bran naturally carries minor plant active co-factors. Because it originates from natural plant oils (as shown in the crude rice bran oil flow chart), its purification process (hydrolysis + crystallization) is strictly controlled, ensuring highly consistent batch stability and high purity (≥98%). This makes it exceptionally suitable for premium skincare lines claiming "plant extracts" and "sustainability."
